The Jack Ride, a road and gravel cycling event supporting youth mental health, is looking for volunteers and ride marshals to help with rides.

Ride marshals play a key role in rider safety and support. You’ll ride alongside participants, offer encouragement and help ensure everyone stays on course. It’s a great way to be part of the event while making a meaningful impact.

If you can help, your entry fee will be waived as a thank-you for your support.

Whether you're riding or volunteering, your involvement helps power better mental health for young people across Canada.

    Club exec updates

    CCC welcomes a new VP

First off, Dean Williamson feels he no longer has the time to hold the position of Vice President and has resigned. On behalf of the club, I would like to thank Dean for his time as our VP.

Chris Wright put his name forward and Ann and I accepted. So Chris is our new VP. Chris will hold this position until our next scheduled election at our 2025 Fall AGM.

    2026 Secretary/Treasurer needed

This will be Ann’s last year as Secretary / Treasurer. If you’re interested in the position, please volunteer for the Admin Group to help us out and see if this is a fit for you.

    In other trail news

Our clean-up crews should have all the trails up and running in the next couple of weeks. Albion Hills is scheduled to be open for MTB on April 19th. After Albion, the crews will go to Palgrave, Erin and Inglewood / Estates in that order.

Our new trail at Albion will be getting a boost. The TRCA is having a trail-building course for their workers, and they will be using the trail we have laid out to learn on. They will be there for 2 days, so we will still have a lot of work to do on it. The main thing here, for many in the club, is this is getting built this year!

    Volunteer meetings

The executive committee is attempting to introduce a new structure this year. We have created 4 groups to volunteer for:

    • Admin.
    • Rides
    • Trail Maintenance / Building
    • Outreach / PR.

We have met with 3 of the 4 volunteer groups that have been set up. The Outreach / PR group will have to wait until after we start the rides for its meeting. This will be a process to get all the groups up and functioning. The end goal is to spread out the work of the club executives to make the club more sustainable. This will be a process, please be patient. It is not too late to volunteer

If you interested in volunteering, reach out to: caledoncyclingclub@gmail.com

    Club events

Last month we tried a Movie Matinee as a club event. It would have been nice to see more people out. The people in attendance seemed to enjoy themselves. We will have to evaluate if this is something we do again. If you were there, let everyone know what you thought of it, good or bad.

    Upcoming events

See you at the Spring Opener (not a BBQ*) ride on Sunday April 27th.

*Don't worry, there's still food. Instead of a BBQ, we'll be serving sandwiches and salads

We'll be doing MTB rides, if you'd like to organize a road or gravel ride, please reach out to caledoncyclingclub@gmail.com and we'll help you set that up.

Check out the site for more details and to register

Paris-Roubaix is a legendary one-day professional cycling race held each April in northern France. Known as "The Hell of the North," it's famous for its brutal cobblestone sections, unpredictable conditions, and relentless difficulty, making it one of the oldest and most prestigious races in the sport.

Welcome to our first newsletter of 2025! We have some exciting changes ahead, including a new club president—me, Joe Switzer. I’m looking forward to building on what makes this club great and introducing ideas to ensure its long-term sustainability. This year we are going to try out a new structure in an attempt to get more people involved.

    Volunteers needed

We would like everyone to volunteer some of their time to the club, if possible. Here are 4 areas where you can help. Don’t be afraid to volunteer for more than one area if you can. Volunteering is a great way to get to know your fellow CCC riders and help make our club and community better.

    Trail building
In front of us are some large trail-building projects. In Albion, we have a new trail plus updating the existing trail. In Erin, there is preparation to be done to get ready for the town of Erin to take over the trail. This means a redo of trails 1,2,3,9,10, and 11. Inglewood will need the installation of some culverts and bridges. I think our Palgrave trails could use some love! This is the year if you have ever wondered what trail building is all about.

    Rides

We will need volunteers to lead and sweep groups. Let's try to get this organized beforehand so we can do less standing around and more riding!

We will need people to step up to organize the road and gravel rides. I would also like to see a Women’s Night started. I was thinking once a month on a Tuesday or Thursday following a long weekend.

Note: Our Monday rides at Albion will now start at the splash pad parking lot. We are going to try a kid’s ride. The Wednesday rotation will be Palgrave, Erin, then Inglewood.

    Administration
We’re looking for volunteers to help out in administrative capacities such as handling memberships, waivers, insurance, legal stuff, accounting, record keeping, the website and social media, and events.

The riding season starts with the Spring BBQ at the end of April. We are always looking for volunteers to help out with this event and our Fall BBQ. We need volunteers to organize, setup, BBQ, work in the kitchen, etc.

    Outreach / Public Relations volunteers

We're also looking for volunteers to handle outreach and partnerships, including liaising with government agencies, IMBA, other clubs, and local bike shops, as well as managing marketing and the club store.

How to sign up to volunteer:

You can sign up to volunteer anytime through your profile on the website or when renewing your membership. You can also update your volunteer preferences whenever you like.

    To update your volunteer preferences:

    1. Go to your profile, hit “Edit Profile”

    2. Update your “Volunteer preferences” and hit “Save”
